Unlike the short hike we did at Buttermilk Falls on January 9 due to the snow, this hike will do the full trail that was planned for that day.

This hike brings us to an easy-moderate trail in Buttermilk Falls (Rockland County, Nyack/Blauvelt, NY) on Saturday, September 3.  The hike is a 4 mile round-trip loop hike. Dogs are allowed on a leash. The hike starts out with a small climb to the scenic Buttermilk Falls.  We will then continue along to a couple of viewpoints.  For those who don't want to do the full 4-mile hike, there is a shorter 1.2 mile hike available.

For those coming, I suggest wearing clothes you will be comfortable in. Also, it's recommended to bring a backpack, 2 liters of water, chapstick, sunscreen (especially if you burn easily), bug/tick spray, and a small trail sandwich/snack.

We'll meet at 11:00 AM at the parking lot for Buttermilk Falls. Driving directions are below. I estimate the hike will take two and a half hours.

If anyone wants to carpool, I'll be coming from Rutherford, NJ (I live right across the street from the Rutherford Train Station) and would be willing to drive a little out of the way to carpool.

Driving Directions from NY via the Tappan Zee Bridge:

After crossing the Tappan Zee Bridge into NJ, follow I-287 West/I-87 North to Exit 12 toward NY-303.  After getting off the exit, stay in the right lane and make a right onto N Palisades Center Dr/Snake Hill Road, following the signs for 303 and 59.  In .1 mile, turn right onto NY-303 South.   Follow NY-303 South for 3/4 of a mile and then take the ramp, on the right, to Route 59 East towards Nyack.  Follow the ramp to the right and turn right onto Route 59 East at the stop sign.  After traveling for 0.1 miles, take the first right to South Greenbush Road (the sign will say Route 303 North---follow that sign).  After you make the right, you will make a very quick left (your first left) onto South Greenbush Road.  After making that left, you will see the parking lot on your left in approximately 1/2 mile.

Public Transportation Directions:

From Grand Central Station, take the 8:20 AM Metro North Train and get off at the Tarrytown Station.  From there, take the 9:26 AM Tappan Zee Express bus and get off at the third scheduled stop at Route 59 and Mountainview Avenue.  From there, it is a 1.2 mile (21 minute) walk to the parking lot.
